This tutorial we will see how to install Lightroom Mobile presets on the app. You can use “Presets” with unique photo effects and save them all in one place to apply them with one click on other photos. The Adobe Lightroom Mobile App is completely free for iOS & Android!
If you haven’t yet, you can have a look at all our Mobile Presets HERE that’s available in the shop.
What you need
Before we get into the steps of importing/saving your Presets in Lightroom we have to install the app first. Below are links to download the Lightroom Mobile app from the Google Play Store and the App Store.
You will also need to have Lightroom Mobile Presets which are in a .dng format. You can not use the desktop Lightroom Presets (.XMP) in the mobile app!
Download the DNG file to your phone
Most presets you buy (including ours) you will be able to download the separate DNG files directly to your phone. If your presets are like this, move on to step 2.
Some presets might come in a compressed .zip file. You will need to “unzip” the DNG files first, which you can do on your phone or computer.
– Download your .zip file and then tap on (Open in “iZip”)
– Tap “OK” to unzip all the DNG files.
– Open WinZip and swipe through the welcome screen & tap “START“
– Locate your .zip file and tap on it, all contents will display on the screen.
– Select the presets you want to unzip and tap the unzip button (first icon after the ZIP file name at the top)
Option B (Computer):
Mac – Download the .zip file onto your computer and double-click to unzip it. This will create a folder with the same name with your DNG image files inside.
Windows – You will need to download and install the WinZip application first which you can find HERE. Follow the prompts to install and click “Done“.
Go back to your .zip file and right-click and select “Extract here“. This will create a folder with the same name with your DNG files inside.
TRANSFER YOUR DNG FILES TO YOUR PHONE:
You can use services like Dropbox or Google Drive (whichever you prefer). On your phone go to your file transfer application and download directly to your phone.
Import the presets into Lightroom Mobile
You should have all your DNG image files saved on your phone. These images have the “settings” you will need to make a preset from.
You might only see blank pictures in your gallery, but don’t panic! That’s how they might look, and you will be able to see them in the Lightroom Mobile app.
1) Open the Lightroom Mobile app and create a new album.
2) Open the album, tap on the 3 dots in the upper right corner, then tap on “Add Photos“
If you downloaded and opened your DNG files through iZip, select “From Files” and go to the iZip files.
If your DNG files were added to your phone from a file transfer application, select “From Camera Roll”
Next, select your DNG presets and import them into your album by pressing “Add _ Photos”
Create your Presets
Go to your album you imported your DNG files to. Tap and open the first file.
Next, tap on the 3 dots icon at the upper right corner, tap “Create Preset”.
You will now see the “New Preset” window, which contains all settings you can use to further customize your preset. You can name your preset (Name it something you can remember) and add it to a “Preset Group”. The preset group is great for keeping multiple different presets organized.
The checkboxes determine which settings you would like to save with the preset. Only the settings you select here will apply to future photos you edit with this preset. You will not need “Tools”, “Optics” or “Geometry” selected as theses settings vary from picture to picture.
When you’re done, save your preset by pressing on the checkmark icon at the upper right corner.
Repeat step 3 for each DNG file to save them as presets!
Use your newly saved presets
To use your new presets, open a picture from your library you would like to edit.
Find the “Presets” icon in the menu at the bottom of the screen and tap on it. You will see your “User Presets” by default, so if you saved your preset to a different group, tap the drop-down arrow to select it.
You can now edit your picture by tapping on a preset from the list and tap on the checkmark to apply the preset to the picture. You will still be able to edit and make adjustments if you want to.
And that’s it! Now you know how to install, save, and use your Lightroom Mobile presets.
Until next time,
